The Project "MAGIE" Continues
Do children today need new, more inclusive stories? This is the question explored by the citizen science project MAGIE. The project is led by the University of Zurich and the Zurich University Library, with support from the University Library Basel and the Swiss Fairy Tale Society. It is funded by a grant from Citizen Science Zurich.
Following the kick-off, the first workshops with citizen scientists have already taken place. Together, participants developed a “fairy tale toolkit” that collects and organizes key elements of classic fairy tales - such as characters, settings, and emotions. They also designed an online survey to explore which fairy tale elements are currently perceived as particularly positive or problematic.
The project team is now working with participants on the design of a psychological study that will later examine how newly created fairy tales influence children’s language, emotions, and social behavior.
How you can take part in this project
The workshop series will continue over the coming months, with a range of engaging events where you can get actively involved: contribute with your writing, help shape characters, or support the development of research questions.
Interested in joining the project? You can find details of the individual workshops on the project’s event page.
