Information on Software Migration
ZORA, the repository of the University of Zurich, grows by around 12,000 entries each year. To ensure that this important platform remains stable and future-proof in the long term, ZORA is expected to switch to new software at the end of July 2025.
For this reason, the University Library (UB) and Central IT Services (ZI) launched a joint project in 2024 to implement the new software DSpace, which will replace the currently used software EPrints. Further background information can be found in the 2024 blog post.
Throughout the transition, we will provide ongoing updates via ZORA, the UB website, and the ZORA newsletter. Please note: The submission deadline for the Academic Report remains unchanged — February 15, 2026. To ensure a smooth process, we recommend that all UZH members familiarize themselves with the new system as early as possible.
Current Timeline
- September 2024: Project kick-off with external partner PCG Academia
- From the end of April 2025: Internal training & initial testing by power users
- From June 2025:
- Initial training sessions for all ZORA users
- Submission freeze in ZORA before data migration
- Important: All ZORA entries in your personal workarea ("Manage deposits") should be submitted for review beforehand
- Expected end of July 2025: Go live!
Instructions for Migrating Your Personal Workspace
Entries in your personal workspace ("Manage deposits") will not be automatically transferred. If possible, submit all ZORA entries for review before the submission freeze. If that is not possible, you can migrate your ZORA entries manually.
How to migrate your data manually:
- Go to your personal workspace ("Manage deposits")
- Select the status "User workarea".
- Export the list in RIS format.
- Save this list locally on your computer. After the go-live, you can re-import it into ZORA.
Training & Walk-In Sessions
Before the Migration
- From around July 2025: Training on the new system
After the Migration
- Fall/Winter 2025/2026:
- Advanced introductory courses in ZORA
- Additional walk-ins for individual questions
- Some events will also be held in English
Take advantage of the walk-ins especially if you have questions after using the new system for the first time. The dates will be published as early as possible on the University Library’s events webpage.
