ACS: Quota for Open Access articles has been reached for 2023

Open Access publishing under the agreement with American Chemical Society (ACS) will be possible again for members of the University of Zurich from 2024 onwards. Publication via the green Open Access route will continue to be possible without fees.

Due to our Read&Publish agreement with the publisher American Society of Chemistry, researchers at the University of Zurich can publish Open Access articles in the publisher's hybrid journals at no cost to themselves. However, the publisher has set an upper limit of articles per year, which has now been reached. Until the end of 2023, the University Library of Zurich will therefore no longer be able to cover the costs of the article processing charges (APC).

How to publish until the end of the year

Members of the University of Zurich can continue to publish Open Access articles, but at their own expense. Alternatively, it is possible to publish the articles in ACS journals as "closed access" free of charge. With the green open access route (self-archiving), authors are allowed to make the accepted manuscript of their articles Open Access in the UZH repository ZORA after an embargo of 12 month.

New allocation from 2024

The Open Access agreement with ACS will be continued 2024. From January 1, the cost of accepted open access articles can be covered again. More information to the Read & Publish agreement with ACS will you find on our website on Article Fee Funding
